Course Description

Fancy yourself as a gastronomic expert? Choose Food Technology and prove yourself in the kitchen as a culinary master! Gain an understanding about the functional properties of food, safe preparation, presentation and storage of food, factors affecting food selection, and much more. During the Preliminary year you will develop your skills in planning, preparing and presenting food.

During the HSC year you will focus on developing and experimenting with different types of food and utilising new techniques for food preparation.

What do you do in this course?

You will investigate the Australian food manufacturing industry. Where and how many of the foods in Australia are made. You will investigate nutrition and how nutrition is affected by cookery processes. You will learn more about why foods react the way they do in specific cooking processes. Your creativity can be unleashed in many of the units but more so in the Food Product Development unit where you will design and market your own new food product.

How can this course help you in the future?

This course would be very beneficial to someone who would want to pursue further study in any food related career. Including: agricultural engineer, dietician, environmental health officer, viticulturist, winemaker, food processing technician, health education, food technology teacher.
