Bismuth Jewellery

Year 12

2020

HSC Showcase

I am often in search of things that are emerging and newly developing within our world. When I stumbled upon Bismuth, I was in awe. When strategically heated and cooled this metal produces a fractal crystalline structure with atoms preferring to attach to the edge of a growing crystal rather than the faces. The result is that the crystal never fills, but instead creates layers of beautiful geometric steps. I took it upon myself to create small nuggets of Bismuth with the intention of creating aesthetically pleasing jewellery.
