As part of our ongoing commitment to continuously improving the College, we believe it is critical to seek each parent and caregiver’s opinion on a range of issues relating to Belmont Christian College.  I am committed to strengthening our bond with families as we partner together in ‘training young people to “grow up into Christ.” Your feedback, therefore, is very important to us as we continue to build a successful College and strengthen our reputation as an ‘educator of choice’.  

As such, we have engaged the professional services of MYP Corporation (MYP Corp) to undertake a strictly private and confidential School Results Survey on our behalf. The survey should take approximately 10 – 15 minutes and will need to be completed online between 21 May and 4 June. There are no right or wrong answers and we ask that you respond honestly to each statement. 

On 21 May parents will have received an email with survey instructions and a personalised login link. If you have not received this email, please check your spam and junk email folders before contacting the College.While we strongly encourage you to participate, the survey is not compulsory. Thank you for your assistance in helping to shape the future direction of Belmont Christian College as we actively prepare our students to be future fit, not just for their lifetime but for eternity.

It’s a Girl!

Congratulations to our beloved Kindergarten teacher Mrs Erin Goodman who gave birth to a beautiful 7lb 13oz baby girl on Monday 6 May. 

Tabitha Mae and Erin are doing really well and big brother Jesse is delighted to tell of his new little sister. May God bless and protect this family and we pray that one day, Tabitha will come to know our loving God.

Each and every day, students from Belmont Christian College continually amaze and inspire us. We love hearing their stories. Here are just a few of them for you to enjoy.

At Belmont Christian College, we love supporting local business. We have teamed up with Trent and Oli from Zarraffas Coffee and together, we want to bless our community with a free coffee and upgrade card.

If you are yet to collect your cards from staff at pick-up time, feel free to grab them from the front office. Hold on to the upgrade card, as you can use it again when you visit the team at Zarraffas. This is an exclusive offer for parents, staff and students from Belmont Christian College.

The last three days of Term 1 saw Years 7 to 11 embark on their annual camps.

Year 11 had a fantastic and challenging camp, learning how to push their limits and grow together as a group. Between conquering the Raw Challenge, some intense laser tag, a formal dinner and a barn dance, they had an awesome time and are ready to take on the next year and a half!

We will feature Years 7 and 8 camps in the coming weeks.

Stuck for dinner ideas?

The Year 7 Food and Agriculture class had a design brief to bring technology into the garden. Using ingredients from the BCC Common Grounds Community Garden they have created a class food blog. All recipes have been tried, tested and photographed by the Year 7 class.

Year 11 and 12 Interviews

Year 11 and 12 Parent-Teacher interviews will be held on Wednesday 29th May from 3.30pm until 8.30pm in the College Library. There will be a break from 6.30pm until 7.30pm. During this time, a ‘Parenting in a Digital World’ cyber safety information session (targeting Years 7 and 8 parents but everyone is welcome) will be presented by Asher Morrison and our Director of ICT here at the College Mr Joe Haig in the theatrette.

We encourage you to attend the Parent-Teacher night so that you can speak to teachers about your child’s progress and ask questions about how you can enable them to do their very best as Stage 6 students. As we work in partnership to support students through this important year, communication between the College and home is vital. 

You should have received an email with a link from the College allowing you to book your Parent-Teacher Interviews in PCSchool, our student management system. If you are unable to access via that link, or did not receive an email, please check your spam and/or junk folders then contact our Secondary School Administrative Assistant, Kathy Evans, at the College on 4922 8312. If you cannot attend the interviews please contact your child’s teachers directly to make alternative arrangements.

Importance of Opal Cards use on Hunter Valley Buses

For families using the Hunter Valley Bus services to the Westlakes area please click here to read a letter from Hunter Valley Buses regarding the importance of students using their Opal Cards when getting on and off the bus. This will greatly assist in providing a more efficient and effective service and ensure the service is able to continue to be offered. Your support would be appreciated. 

Physical Theatre Workshop

Last week BCC Drama students participated in a physical theatre workshop with Swoop Theatre Director, Danielle MacKinnon. The students learnt many acro balance techniques as well as how to devise a group performance using movement scores.

This was a quote from Danielle: “I had the absolute pleasure of delivering a physical theatre workshop to the entire Drama ‘company’ at Belmont Christian College today. From the moment I entered the College, I felt welcome and respected. I very quickly realised the focus, openness to learning and industriousness of the Drama students and the talent and commitment of their teacher Mrs Stewart.

Our five hour workshop flew by and I am so impressed at what the students were able to absorb and use in creation.”BCC Drama students have once again represented the College well through their commitment to learning, extending themselves and their care for each other. Well done Years 9-12 Drama students.

New Drama/Dance Studio Opening

With the help of our Secondary Drama students, the Creative Arts department was pleased to open our NEW Drama/Dance Studio in Week 4 of five-hour term. This new space has been in development for several months and currently features the professional nuances of a Dance/Drama Studio. This includes black walls and sprung, vinyl flooring. Several additions will be added in the coming weeks and months so that this remains a dedicated room for the two Performing Arts subjects.

The investment in building this space speaks to the ongoing growth in Performing Arts at BCC and the value that many of our students place on subjects like Drama and Dance. I am always encouraged to witness the significant learning that takes place in the Creative Arts, especially in what is educationally known as the 4 Cs: Communication, Creativity, Critical Thinking and Collaboration. Each of these are incredible skills for life and work post-schooling, and with our new space, students will have the opportunity to build these skills in a purpose built room.

BCC Sport Website Launch

The PDHPE Department is proud to announce that we now have a sports events information website. The website will provide information relating to up and coming sports events, permission eforms, event results, training information and team lists. The site can be accessed by students and parents. Secondary Athletics Carnival

The annual Secondary School Athletics Carnival was held last Friday, in what could be described as exceptional conditions, blue skies and warm air temperatures greeted the students. With 83% attendance, the competition was hot across all age divisions. Congratulations to our Age Champions, Record Breakers and all who attended. Well done to Booth house for taking out the point score of the day.

Zone Soccer Gala Day

On Monday 13 May, our College competed in the Secondary School Zone Soccer Gala Day in Tamworth. Our teams played well and displayed courage and great teamwork. The Junior and Senior boys and our Senior girls narrowly missed playing in the Grand Final. However the Junior girls made it into the Grand Final. They were valiant but were unfortunately beaten on the day. Congratulations Junior girls and well done to all of the teams.
